New Chapter - Southern Utah Wedding and Portrait Photographer

To those of you who follow my website, Facebook page or blog, I apologize for being so scarce this past year! A lot of you know that we made the move back to Southern Utah and life has been crazy ever since! I haven't had a whole lot of time to dedicate to photography but I'm challenging myself to make more time and to build a bigger clientele.
Thank you to those who have supported me and my family in our doings and I look forward to the rest of 2015 and all of 2016 and what it brings!

Here are brief glimpses of the few sessions I've had since we were in Reno.

Unique Story Winner - Grant Klino {Reno NV Family Photographer}

If you remember, we had a contest a couple months back about people's unique stories. After hearing the story of this sweet little boy, I was so excited to tell his story. After having a premature baby myself and experiencing the emotional roller coaster that comes from an anything-but-ideal-labor my heart went out to this family. I thank the Lord every day for modern medicine and wonderful nurses and doctors that help bring babies into this world. I hope you enjoy this "miracle baby" story as much as I have and the joy that children bring to our lives.

 Shauna Klino tells of Grant's birth story:

"We decided not to find out the sex of our 2nd baby , which made my pregnancy and the anticipation of the birth very exciting. 
        I was 41 weeks when the doctor decided to induce labor. After 22 plus hours of being in the hospital we were finally ready to push. After 3 pushes his head delivered and the nurses were confident in the next 2 pushes or baby would be here. 
          After about 3 minutes of pushing and still no baby, the nurse and the mid wife's face go completely white and they both start yelling for a doctor, and my husband runs up the hall yelling for a doctor, after which about 10 more nurses flood into my room, 4 pushing on my belly, 2 pulling my legs all the way back to my head. A doctor finally comes in and instantly looks scared. He looks at me and says, "If you don't push harder, your baby is probably going to die". So my husband is crying and telling me, "Push babe, push". 

          In the final attempt to get my son out ( you only have 5 minutes after the head delivers to get the rest of the baby out or they run out of oxygen) they ended up giving me a 4th degree episiotomy ( end to end cut) to save his life. They pulled him out and he was completely limp. He needed to have chest compressions to start breathing. Luckily they got him to start breathing, and since I was so late and he was so big ( 10lbs 2oz) he had enough oxygen in his umbilical cord to save his life. 

          The real miracle is that he was perfectly healthy, nothing wrong, even after the trauma ! He turned 1 in August and everyday I am so thankful to the doctor who saved him! He is the sweetest baby ever!"

Thank you to the Klino family for allowing me to tell your story and capturing your beautiful family. Life truly is a miracle and you have one gorgeous little boy to prove it! 

North Hills Veterinary Clinic patients {Reno, NV Pet photographer}

Sometimes we forget that our four-legged friends, just like our children, age. They start out as cute little creatures and grow into beautiful animals who leave paw prints on our hearts. Buster the cat is 15 years old which is quite a feat in animal years. The other adorable bunch ranged in age from 4 months to 12 years. They all behaved very well and I couldn't ask for a better session. Thank you, owners, for trusting me to take portraits of your beloved ones!

They were taken at North Hills Veterinary Clinic in Golden Valley.

Webster Family {Caughlin Ranch, Reno, NV}

This family is some of our best friends here in Reno. My kids love their kids, my husband and I love Kenny and Becca and we do so much together. They are some of the biggest reasons we love being in Reno and why it feels so much like home.
I had another friend come help and get smiles on the kids' faces and she was also my assistant with the lighting. We used the reflector and I love the results that it presented. I couldn't believe we found a spot that had so many flowers still in bloom. You almost couldn't tell that they were fall portraits. They tended to resemble spring shots. Either way, the colors blended great together and looked amazing with their outfits. Especially the purple!
Luckily we brought some bubbles because we started to lose Drake towards the end. Once we whipped them out, he had the time of his life. We were able to capture his beautiful smile as well as laughter even though he was due for a nap.

These last few days I've done a lot of contemplating and reflection on myself and why I do things. In particular, why I do photography.

I can't say enough about this couple! I love them so much! Misty is so much like a sister it's scary.  We started working together about 6 months ago and we instantly hit it off. She reminds me so much of my own sister that we're practically family. Colter is a strapping young man who moved to Reno, Nevada from Dallas, Texas to serve the Lord on a two year mission. He loved it so much that he decided to move back and go to school. Mutual friends hooked them up on a date and the rest is history.
Given that they're both country folk we thought the best place to take their engagement pictures would be Virginia City, Nevada. It turned out to be just the location! I could have spent a whole other day shooting them because there were so many great spots to choose from. It was just the kind of backdrop that I was picturing for their portraits. Being country myself I was in heaven as we went from spot to spot. I love these pictures just as much as I love the couple:-)

It's hard to believe that I did this family's pictures over two years ago! This is such a wonderful family and I am so blessed to know them. I did little Adi's newborns when she was just a few weeks old. I can't believe how time flies! These parents are so patient with their kids. You can see the love and affection radiating from them. Not only for their kids but for each other as well. I would love to be a fly on the wall at their home! I hope you love these pictures as much as I do:-) They were taken at the beautiful Rancho San Rafael Park. It's always a great place to go no matter the subject.

Iwahashi Sisters and Pets {Reno Pet Photographer}

These wonderful sisters are a wonderful match for these dogs. They are all so loving of each other and it was great to see them play with each other. I met them at the North Hills Veterinary Clinic's open house back in November and Gina was one of the lucky winners of a free session. They decided to incorporate their best friends which I loved. I do a lot of studio pet sessions but don't always get the chance to do outdoor pet sessions. It's great to see them in their natural element and see them be their complete selves instead of freaked out by the flashes and clicks that a studio bring. Either way, these gals, all four of them, did a great job and I had a lot of fun capturing them.

Rebekah & Justin {Reno, NV Wedding Photographer}

Thanks to Rays Tire Exchange in downtown Reno, we were able to get some amazing shots with this couple! They wanted something a little different and kind of an urban feel to it. Well, I think we accomplished just that. I was like a little kid in a candy store because of all the textures, old feel, and the endless possibilities that this place carried! Even though Rebekah and Justin are younger than some couples, their love was blooming. You could see how they trusted each other completely and how deeply they knew each other. It was so refreshing to see true love amongst all the dirt and rubble of this local Mom and Pop business. Thanks again, guys! I'm very much looking forward to the wedding in June:-)

Ani & Scott {Reno, NV Engagment Photographer}

I was fortunate enough to have this couple referred to me by one of my very dear friends. My friend has known Scott for years. Having seen my friends family portraits (that I also did) Ani asked where she had them done and that they were looking for a wedding photographer. We got in touch through Facebook and the rest is history. It was so much fun meeting them and their adorable little girl, Alora. We were kind of in a race with the sun because we got a little bit of a late start but we got some amazing shots and Alora cooperated just beautifully.  I hope you enjoy these shots as much as I enjoyed taking them:-)

Taegyn, Jessica, and Emma {Reno, NV Cheerleader Photographer}

This session brought me back to my cheer days in high school! It was hard to believe that I use to be as flexible and as mobile as these gals. They are a part of Five Star Gym in Reno. It was so fun to see them interact with each other. They went from being shy and not wanting to pose to striking a pose or cheer move at every corner and saying, "Take a picture of this!" They are so talented and so fun to be around because of their vibrant, out-going personalities. Thanks for the fun afternoon, gals!

Altom Family {Reno, NV Family Photographer}

This family is one that is dear to my heart! They are so much like my family and so I feel like I fit right in. I see the father as another father figure. He's so much like my own dad it's scary! I couldn't be happier and more honored to meet all of their children and grandchildren. What an amazing looking bunch!!

Hall Family {Reno, NV Family Photographer}

What a beautiful brisk morning it was for this session! I LOVE the colors that the sun brought out! This is a gal whom I work with, her brother, and his girl friend. They wanted to do some pictures as a surprise for their mother. It was great to see how they interacted with each other. You can tell how protective Robert is of his little sister. We were all jokes and laugh the whole session. They made for some great shots!!  I hope you like them as much as me.

Webster Family {Reno, NV Family Photography}

I am really excited to share these pictures because they are of our very good friends, the Websters. There aren't many plans that we make without them. Needless to say, I was excited to do their pictures.
I love the shot of little Drake in the foreground! He was about done with pictures the time I took this. He kept trying to walk away from his dad because he no longer wanted to sit there. I decided to capitalize on his adventurous-ness and get this great shot. The rest of the family did a great job of staying while I worked around Drake and I love the result.

Bishop Family {Reno, NV Family Photography}

This was another great family and they happened to be Wolf Pack fans as well. I better get out and hit a Wolf game!! I totally related to them because they are western as well. I love meeting families that like to ride and be outdoors like we do. We always have a lot to talk about:-)

Nelson Family {Reno, NV Family Photography}

I met this family at a wedding I photographed last year and I was so happy when they contacted me again. The mother was one of the bridesmaids to the bride at the wedding. I loved meeting them then and I loved seeing them again!
I love the colors they chose for their outfits. I thought they coordinated very well. I also love that they brought their Wolf Pack jerseys because it's who they are. I always tell families to where what shows who they are as individuals and as a family. They nailed it!

Friden Family - {Reno, NV Family Photography}

I had (another) great time with this family! I had the privilege of taking miss Ellie's one year portraits and had a blast with that. I was so glad when they called me to do their family pictures. I love everything about this session....their color choices, the location, the weather, the lighting.....everything! I couldn't be happier with the way these turned out. I felt like I totally fit in with this family given that my family is western as well:-) I met this family because the dad's girlfriend was one that I took family photos for last year and she was sweet enough to refer me. I had a great time and was glad to get to know this family!
